Dr. Randall Aten
Dr. Randall Aten is the owner of Corona del Mar Animal Hospital since 1992 and has been practicing in the Newport Beach area since 1987. Dr. Aten was born and raised in a small town in central Illinois. He originally thought of staying down on the farm, but as his education progressed he decided the challenges of small animal medicine were more rewarding. Dr. Aten graduated from Wabash College in Indiana with a B.A. in Biology and received his D.V.M. degree in 1982 from the University of Illinois.
In search of more mild winters, he landed in Las Vegas and gained a solid base of experience dealing with a variety of patients in the 24/7 environment of Las Vegas. In 1992 he made his final move in purchasing Corona del Mar Animal Hospital. It has been a daily joy living and working with the clients/patients of Corona del Mar to establish relationships that extend through multiple generations of pets. It is this close working bond of trust built between patients and owners over these many years that keep clients coming back for his compassionate care. Dr. Aten understands the value and importance of the bonds we share with our pets and wants to make sure each receives the same caring he gives to his own pets.
Dr. Liz Hanson
Dr. Liz Hanson was born and raised in Southern California. After completing a B.S. degree at the University of California at Davis, she attended Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation in 1995, she moved back to Southern California and has enjoyed practicing small animal veterinary medicine in Orange County ever since. Her areas of interest include internal medicine, dermatology, soft tissue surgery, and wellness programs.
The bond that is shared between a pet and its owner is what inspired Dr. Hanson to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. “One of the best parts of my job is not only when a patient is cured, but also when I see the joy an owner has when their pet is back to health!” Dr. Hanson has two miniature long-haired Dachshunds, “Peanut” and “Butter”, two leopard geckos, African cichlids, and a cat named “Martini.” When Dr. Hanson is not practicing Veterinary Medicine she enjoys watching her three sons compete in swimming and golf, and loves to cook, read, and most of all, travel.
Dr. Carissa Cruz-Gsell

Over the years, she volunteered her time at multiple places, including the local raptor rehabilitation center in Missouri, the California Wildlife Center, and the OC Animal Rescue Coalition.
In her free time, she loves to paint, frequent the beach, go hiking, and traveling to new places.
